Last weekend we had all of our kids and grandkids home. They started arriving Friday night. By early Sunday afternoon everyone had headed for home except for a son and daughter-in-law who were staying another night.
They helped us get the house back in order and put things away. My husband has been itching for a pickup, so Tom went with him to check out a few while Laura and I stayed home and visited.
Later in the afternoon we were headed out the door to get the dogs at the "spa." Yep, they were voted off the island for the weekend. With everyone coming and going we thought it would just be best if they had a stay-cay at the vet's.
Before we left to pick them up I asked Tom and Laura if they would deflate the swimming pool and put it in the garage. That was the only thing left to do. So they cheerfully headed out to the deck to do that. I opened the sliding glass door, told them we would be back shortly, closed the door, and off we went to rescue our bassets.
We got back about 30 minutes later. Willow and Belle were thrilled to be home and running around the house, checking out all the new smells that had arrived since they were last here. As we came in the house I wondered where Tom and Laura were, then I saw them sitting on the deck in the patio chairs, relaxing.
I thought they must have decided to enjoy the weather as it looked like it could rain, but wasn't yet. I opened the sliding glass door to let the dogs out in the back yard and Tom said, "How did you do that?"
I said, "Do what?"
He said, "Open the door."
The confused look on my face must have said it all. He started to laugh and said, "You locked us out!"
Egad.
This isn't the first time I have done this. I have also locked Michael out. It is just my habit to lock that sliding glass door when I close it.
So while we were off getting the dogs Tom and Laura were sitting on the deck.....
Staring at the dining room table through the glass door.
Seeing the phone they needed to call to let me know I had locked them out.
Seeing their drinks.
They considered going through the fence gate but saw it was locked (surprised?)
They even considered climbing OVER the fence, but then wondered if the front door was locked too. (It was). And of course the garage door was closed. So that would have been interesting to see, but netted no results.
So they sat there... and waited.
Hoping it would not rain.
Just sitting in their chairs....
staring into the house.
I don't think I will hear the end of this anytime soon.
