On a recent sunny day Belle in particular wanted in and out. She loves to "catch rays". After letting her out twice on my lunch it was almost time to go back to work and she wanted out yet again. She didn't go off the deck the previous times and I was getting a bit exasperated with her!
I said, "Okay, you can go out again, but this time you are going off the deck!"
I opened the sliding glass door. Willow flew out - Willow wastes no time. Belle s-l-o-w-l-y saunters out. Her routine is to make a circle on the deck - looking over the neighborhood, checking for security issues. Belle believes she is "in charge of security in the 'hood."
Belle got just onto the deck, stood there , and looked at me. I said, "off"... "go"....pointing to the steps. She was being stubborn. (It must be the basset in her.) As I looked at her and pointed to the steps and said "go" once again - she looked at me and "humphfed!"
I have never been humphfed at by a dog before!
She did go off the deck. S-l-o-w-l-y. I told her to get done because we had to go back to work.
So as if to make a point she went to the farthest corner of the backyard and just took her sweet time. I called her and Willow to come in saying "Back to work!." (Which in dog language really meals time to sleep in the office.")
Saunter.
She had to be thinking, "You said go off the deck...... so I did... how do you like this?"
