Last Saturday night we made smores with some of the kids and grandkids. Other than the obvious that they are totally addictive, I am not sure why we don't treat ourselves to them a little more often. Let's be honest, they are so rich that one truly can satisfy that sweet craving.
Since we don't have a campfire, we just put a graham on a plate, top it with a mallow, and pop it in the microwave for about 1 minute or until the mallow is nice and poofy, then top with the chocolate and the second graham.
And press to squish.
No one really needs a "recipe" on how to make a smore, but it is fun to say because it is so universal and everyone knows what you mean.

Heaven here on earth. (sigh)
I don't know who came up with the idea of smores, but I seriously want to hug them!
So as I was trying to decide what recipe to blog about, my mind wandered to the smore I had this weekend and thinking I needed to add smores ingredients to the shopping list. Then I wondered what kind of smore bar recipes were out there. So I did some searching and found this one my Mom had saved from the Taste of Home magazine. I have never tried this recipe, but I will be.
So we are taking a leap of faith together on this one, but seriously... Taste of Home..... my mom liked it... and smores in a pan.
How can we go wrong?

Smores Bars
3 cups graham cracker crumbs
3/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
1/3 cup sugar
3 cups miniature marshmallows
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
Combine the cracker crumbs, butter, and sugar and press half into a greased 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Sprinkle with marshmallows and chocolate chips. Top with remaining crumb mixture, press firmly. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and immediately press top firmly with spatula. Cool completely. Cut into bars.
The recipe says it makes 3 dozen.
Huh?
I am doing good to get 24 bars out of a 9 x 13 pan, let alone 36!

So make them as big or as small as you want, it's a free country. But if you try this recipe please let me know what you think.
