Over the years we have gotten some things that needed to be assembled:
My office desk and file cabinet
Two of these wicker basket storage units - which I LOVE
Some small book shelves, etc.
I quickly learned that assembling things was not my strong suit. Somehow I am missing the "assembly gene." I always think I can tackle the project but then end up asking Michael for help after about 5 minutes of the "deer in the headlights" look, staring at parts, and flipping the instructions over and over and over.
As hard as I try to look at the directions and try to get them to make sense to me, they might as well be written in a foreign language. And the diagrams do NOT help.
In fact, I've learned that the quickest way to get things put together is to gather an odd assortment of tools and say to Michael, "I'm going to try putting that together!"
He quickly says, "Why don't I do it?"
(Exactly what I had hoped for!)

And my daughter, Liz, picked up a rolling cart for my card making things recently. She asked me if I wanted her to put it together.
YES PLEASE!
YES PLEASE!
With the "clutter" I previously blogged about, I have been on a mission to make the best use of space around the house and to get rid of as many things sitting around as possible. So my latest thing to pick up was a shoe rack for our closet.
The other morning before work I decided to try to tackle it. I had 45 minutes before I needed to start work. The front of the box said, "No tools needed."
That was a good sign.
Anything that comes with an Allen wrench, forget about it.

So I opened the box and within 10 minutes I had it together!!!
Honestly, it would only take about 3 minutes, but the rods that the shoes sit on were all connected. I thought I had to break them apart which made absolutely no sense to me but the instructions didn't include this step. Then I realized that the rubber pieces holding them together in groups of 4 simply slid off the ends.
DUH.
See - assembly gene missing.

So the shoe clutter has been resolved.
Love the roller cart. Good for you for decluttering. We are going through things and downsizing. Rule of thumb, if we have not used it in a full year, it is going away.
