Why Did The Eagle Cross The Road?

Over the weekend we were headed to a friend's house.  We live on the edge of town and the easiest way to her home was going 1/2 mile west, which takes us in the country.  We turned onto the blacktop and Michael suddenly slowed down and said, "There's a bald eagle!"

When it spotted us it spread its wings as if to fly away, but it didn't.

Wow, what a sight!

I never realized how BIG bald eagles really were with their wings spread.  He was just right next to us in the ditch.

We had cars coming behind us so couldn't stop, but came back by to get another look.  By then he had moved from his lunch (poor deer) to a small bare tree in the ditch and was perched on one of the branches - about eye height.

He was gorgeous.

He must have been getting a little tired of the attention as another car had stopped to see him too,  as he flew up and into the field, where we could only see the top of his head.

I had my phone out to try to get pictures... but at times I was too in awe to actually use it and at other times he just didn't cooperate.

When we got home I had to look up some information about the bald eagle.  I especially wanted to know the wing span.  It is typically 6 to 7-1/2 feet!

So many people go out trying to spot bald eagles where they nest and we were able to see one without even trying.

Totally Amazing.

  1. Love watching the eagles. We are so fortunate as we see them quite often up here in the woods. They are huge. I remember taking Cayden to see the one in the M Zoo. He was terrified. They are definitely gorgeous!
