Bob

I know what you are thinking, who is Bob?
Bob (the fish formerly known as Fish - at least to me!) came to visit for  the week while his Mom was out of town.  I thought you may be curious about how he did at our house since I don't have the best luck with fish.
Well, it started off a little rough.  He would sleep in a corner of his bowl head down, and each time I was worried he was dying until I saw him move.
(I'm sure Bob was thinking, "Lady, I'm just trying to get some sleep here!).
Then  his food floated to the bottom of the bowl when I fed him for the first time Monday night and he didn't seem to see it.

So I watched and worried....he didn't seem to find it.

So when he was hanging out at the top of his tank I fed him again (first night and I'm already breaking the food rules) ... and he immediately found the food this time.

Whew!

I couldn't help but wonder if something was wrong, but I was doing everything just as Patti told me.  Then, as I'm watching Bob eat, it hits me:

I have cooking salmon in the oven.

Guess that was rather rude of me, huh?

So I apologized to Bob for cooking salmon.

I couldn't call him Fish.  I really needed to connect with this guy...
so I called him Bob.

Fish...bob ... get it?

I know.  I have a need to name things.
There's the car we had when the kids were little, Clarence.  The kids loved Clarence... maybe too much.  We went trade to him in and were going to surprise the kids with a "new" car but instead they were in tears.
"We're leaving Clarence here??"
Okay, so maybe naming things wasn't such a good idea.
But we still named the next car -  Tillie (it is hard to break old habits).
So as you can imagine calling the fish "Fish" was a struggle for me.
Bob made it through the week just fine once we got past him not eating and me cooking salmon.  I did not make fish again the rest of the week.
Sorry Bob.
It was fun to have Bob here. I loved watching him swim around and he has such gorgeous colors.

Come back anytime Bob...and I promise I won't cook fish!

  1. I promptly forgot you had written a column on Bob; this is hilarious! I ran across it as I was catching up on Foodie Fridays.
