This morning (Labor Day) Michael and I were going to go out and take pictures at a couple of parks we have never been to. But after being up and unable to sleep from 12:30 to 4 a.m. I decided spending the morning at home, hanging out in jammies for a bit, and being a slug sounded like a much better idea.
Before Michael left to take pictures I told him not to get his hopes up, but that I might bake Monster Cookies while he was gone.

His eyes lit up.
Just in case I didn't have all the ingredients for Monster Cookies, I asked what his second choice would be. But I already knew the answer, "Chocolate Chip Cookies."

Then I got really crazy. In my own defense I was sleep deprived.
I said, "Who knows, by the time you get home I could have 6 different kinds of cookies made! But really REALLY don't count on that one!"

His eyes got even bigger and he said, "Oh, that would be like a dream come true for me!"
He showed me where my apron was, just in case I had forgotten. He loves it when I bake. I don't bake as often as I used to, or as often as Michael would like. This is good for our health, but my hubby does love sweets.
Then he went on to say, "Some morning I am going to put your mixer on the counter and lay your apron, a spoon, and an open recipe book beside it as a hint for you."
I said, "You know, I might get the hint then!"
Then I paused, and smiled, and my eyes got really big and I said, "Or, I might think, oh great! what did Michael bake????"
We both laughed.
With midlife has come the fact that sometimes it takes a while for me to connect the dots, so we both saw my interpretation of him baking as a real possibility.
I love that our home is filled with humor, at even the simplest things.
I love that we can laugh at ourselves. If I wasn't able to do that this midlife thing would be a real downer rather than giving us humor each day.

But seriously, I need to go bake cookies.
Later!
