Becoming Our Parents

When I was younger becoming my parents was a scary thought.

Let's face it,  they worried.

They had new health issues popping up off and on and that was all they talked about at times.

And I thought they had to be pretty bored without us kids there - after all... their lives had to revolve around us, right?

Michael always tells about  going out to eat with his parents when he was growing up and being the first ones at the restaurant. As other diners would arrive his Dad would say, "We got here just in time!"

Well it has happened.  We are becoming our parents.

Michael and I celebrated Valentine's Day the Saturday night following, by going out for dinner at our favorite Chinese restaurant -  at 5:00.  More and more we find ourselves out to eat earlier than most people.

Yes, we get there just in time.

And I can't tell you how many times Michael has said that!

We worry... there's just no way around it.  We worry about our kids, our grandkids, you name it, we have worried about it.

We seem to have new health issues popping up once in a while.  Michael is pretty quiet about his, but I will tell anyone who stands still long enough to listen.  And if you start to run I'll keep up with you just long enough to finish telling you about it before you outrun me.

But we are not boring... or bored!

I now realize how busy my parents were with their lives and visiting kids and grandkids.

So it has happened.

We ARE our parents.
