When I was growing up my mom was a librarian for a period of time. She LOVED to read. I think she had read almost every book in the public library and had started over again on the titles before she passed away.
I love to read as does Michael. We love to give our grandchildren books. Our grandson Jacob reads ALL the time. We love seeing him engrossed in a book! And I love to shop for books - especially children's books. I tried writing children's books at one time, but that is a whole other blog!
So when we saw a story about Little Free Libraries on the news, we knew we had to get one! If you aren't familiar with them here is how they work.
You buy or build a version of the Little Free Library, put it by your sidewalk, put some books in it, and you have a library!
People are encouraged to take a book or two. There are no due dates, no need to sign a book out. They can be returned, but they do not need to be. The books are never for sale. People are also welcome to bring a book they no longer need and put it in the library for someone else to read, so it really becomes a neighborhood project.
Each library is given a charter number - ours is #2226. And when you register your library you get put on the Google map so people know where your library is. The goal is to create more Little Free Libraries than Andrew Carnegie's system of real libraries (2501).
The whole concept behind the libraries is simple: giving it forward.
So if you live in the area, please stop by and check out the books - they will be changing off and on.
Just a few of the current offerings in the library include:
Tuesdays with Morrey by Mitch Albom
a Clive Cussler book
a Sandra Brown book
a John Grisham book
a devotional book
Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul
Old Yeller
several Sandra Boynston children's books (love 'em)
and my favorite children's book title....
I Love You Stinky Face :)
