Crockpot Maidrites

It has been ages since I have posted on here.  If you don't know me personally you may have wondered where I have been.

In October we began the process of checking into opening our own business and here we are now just 1 week away from opening!  Our store, Treats On A Leash, will be a dog bakery and pet specialty store.  We have been putting in some long days, but are loving every second of getting our store ready!
(Okay, maybe not the day our bakery case arrived, but it all worked out!)

We had a late Christmas with some of our family a week ago and with all the busyness of getting our business ready we opted to go easy and casual so we could spend time with our family and not in the kitchen.. and that resulted in having Crockpot Maidrites  If you are from Iowa, you know of Maidrites.  If you're not familiar with them, you are missing something!   These are so easy to make!

Crockpot Maidrites

3 pounds ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
1 beef bouillon cube
1 chicken bouillon cube
1-1/2 cups water
2 T. brown sugar
2 T. apple cider vinegar
2 T. Worcestershire sauce
1 T soy sauce

Put raw hamburger in crockpot (crumble as much as possible).  In a bowl combine remaining ingredients and stir to blend liquids and sugar.  Pour over meat.  Cook on high for 4 hours.  About every 30-45 minutes stir it and work to break up the ground beef so it crumbles.  It is really low maintenance, just takes a few minutes each time.

Serve on buns with your choice of condiments.  I can guarantee you they will be messy, but awesome!

I doubled the recipe and would likely do that again for even a smaller group, as it is a wonderful way to have ground beef available for other uses.

Enjoy!

And if you are in the area, please stop in to visit us at our store and bring your leashed pets in!
