It Has Started

Some people plant flowers and let them grow year after year after year.    The same flowers in the same beds.

Not me.

I plant flowers.  I keep what I like.  Donate those I don't care for or those that just don't fit anywhere size-wise to my friend Robin who lives on an acreage, and then plant new things.

I switch things up.

I move them around.

I regroup.

I've even tossed a few things in the field across the street  and some have taken root, so if you see flowers growing there you can secretly thank me for the beautification project,  but don't tell!!

So each spring IT begins.  I find myself awake at night unable to sleep and before I know it I am mentally going through my flower beds, deciding what I am going to dig up or divide, where I will move it or if I want to give it to Robin, and whether or not I want to plant anything new in its place.

It is hard work.  For someone who forgets why she walked into a room and finally remembers why on the fifth try, mentally rearranging flower beds is quite an accomplishment!

But I have to admit, this year it has started earlier than usual.  There is still snow on the ground!  I usually don't start this mental plant moving until flowers have started to come up.  I think it has started because I noticed the irises and tulips were just starting to come up.

To be honest, I forget what is where sometimes.  There are one or two things each year that as they grow and define themselves I think, "Oh yeah, I forgot I planted that!"  It's like Christmas!

So I think this may be some psychic phenomenon that is allowing me to be the groundhog of the human world.  I think this may be a sign spring is just around the corner.

Then again,  it may just be I need a good night's sleep.

Happy Spring!
