Hello!

On the weekend we often get a call from our grandson Liam,  who is 5 years old, lives near Chicago,  and LOVES to talk on the phone.   This involves being a very good listener as he carries the majority of the conversation. I have had conversations with Liam that have carried me through a whole grocery store before.

Here's a snippet of Liam's phone call on Sunday:

"Hi Grandma!  We are going to the store to see bunnies!  I got to pet the bunny yesterday.  Bunnies are soft and nice."

Then I heard about what he was watching on TV.

"Thomas is really an engine, but he has a mouth and eyes, so he isn't real."

He put his little sister Morgan on the phone for a bit (silence as Morgan listens most of the time).    Then Liam came back on and was talking more.

"Movies aren't real, they are pretend."

After a period where I could hardly get a word in edgewise he would say, "Grandma, are you there???"  I had to laugh.  Yep Grandma was still there ....just listening very intently!

"I had to switch hands Grandma 'cuz my hand was getting tired, that's why it was so quiet. Did you know bones can get tired Grandma?"

Then I heard more about the bunnies and so much other stuff I honestly can't remember it all!

Then I heard him say to his parents, who were apparently asking for the phone, "I'm not done talking to Grandma yet."

When I asked him what he wanted for his 6th birthday in May he couldn't hear me and said, "I'm sorry Grandma, I can't hear you - please speak up."

I had to smile - I thought my voice is hoarse from not being used!!

But my favorite part of the phone call:

"I wish I could come to see you and Grandpa every day 'cuz I love you guys and you have toys and chocolate chip cookies."

Me too, Liam.

Me too.  :)
