We got a call this weekend from a neighbor who was going to be out of town. She wondered if we would babysit for her.
My first thought was "Oh no, what pet does she have that I didn't know about??" We just got Willow and have been adjusting nicely, and I was imagining a third pet in the mix.
Then I heard the rest of the sentence, "babysit my... fish" and I gave a sigh of relief.
Yes, I said fish.
So, a few hours later, our neighbor arrived at our door with fish bowl and Fish in tow.
Fish is not only his species but his name.
He is a gorgeous beta fish. He has feathery fins that are blue and purple in color.
I'm not the best with fish.
Growing up I had a fish bowl and I had a goldfish (Goldie) and one of those black fish with the big buggy eyes (Pepper).
Pretty original huh?
They didn't last long.
There were tears, a burial at sea, and they were soon replaced with another set.
Yep, another Goldie and Pepper.
I won't tell how many sets of these fish I went through. I don't want to scare our neighbor. However, I did tell her that fish are not my forte.
On the up side, Fish seems to require very little maintenance while he is here - just 5 pieces of food a day. I have been talking to him. This is something our neighbor may have to continue to do when she returns as he may miss it when he goes back home.
It is fun just to watch his feathery fins and look at the colors. Right now he seems to be happy. He is swimming around in his bowl. I assume that is the equivalent of fish happiness.
Belle and Willow are oblivious to Fish.
I'm glad we don't have a cat as being a cat-free home increases the odds of Fish making it through the week.
