Our Anniversary Top 8

Michael and I just celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary yesterday.  In honor of that we thought it would be fun to do a joint blog and share 8 things that are important to us in our marriage.

Our Top 8

Michael - #1. Never go to bed angry. If we are upset or disappointed we always talk about it.  Being angry takes a lot of energy.  Plus if we resolve the issue before going to sleep we sleep much better!

Barb - #2.  We make God a priority and support each other in our faith. Putting God first makes our marriage stronger and gives us a solid foundation to stand on when life gets crazy.

Michael - #3.  Life is unpredictable so we always give each other a kiss when saying goodbye, hello and good night. (Or just about any ole time!)

Barb - #4.  We communicate and try to be clear about our expectations, goals, the to-do list, etc... it helps avoid misunderstandings.  And I need all the clarity I can get at this point in life - especially on those days where I am speaking MidLife Gibberish - luckily Michael has MLG as a second language.

Michael - #5.  We give each other time and space to do things we enjoy... no matter how unimportant those things may seem to the other.  Barb loves watching QVC's AM Style on Saturday mornings (I don't get that, but it's okay) and I can read the Sunday paper for hours (she doesn't get that either, but that's fine).

Barb - #6.   We laugh and are silly together.  A great sense of humor keeps you from taking life too seriously.   We always say we will be the old couple in the nursing home repeating their "shtick" day... after day... after day, and driving the staff nuts.
("Shirley you can't be serious?"  - "I am, and don't call me Shirley!")
We'll be here all week folks.

Michael - #7.  Be your spouse's biggest fan and best friend! I am Barb's and she is mine.

Barb - #8.  We say "I love you", mean it, and follow it up with our actions.  There's a quote I love..."Your actions speak so loudly,  I can not hear what you are saying."  - Ralph Waldo Emerson

What would be on your list?
