Hallelujah!!
They say good things come to those who clean. Well I guess they don't but that is how I stumbled across this recipe.
Last Sunday I decided to clean the laundry room. I found a 3-ring binder full of recipes that my Mom had been collecting. When we came across it after she passed away I didn't know she had even been collecting recipes in it. She had her recipe box which was her go to for all her favorite and most used recipes. But apparently she liked these recipes well enough to get copies from friends and save them. I had put it on the shelf in the laundry room figuring I would go through it again when I had more time.
The 3-ring binder had recipes she had collected from coworkers at the bank, recipes printed in the newspaper and various magazines. I was thumbing through it as it had been a while since I had looked at it and came across an aged, brown portion of a newspaper from 1981, with some cookie recipes.
There are several I want to make - one recipe I have not made in decades and a different version of a monster cookie I thought would be fun, but what caught my eye was the chocolate chip cookie recipe.
The recipe was by Susan Feely of Swea City, my hometown. It was a bit different than that "on the bag" which everyone else seems to have luck with. There is no huge secret in this recipe, you've likely made these before so as always with my recipes, I'm not reinventing the wheel!
I wasn't planning to bake Sunday, but when I found the recipe I just had a feeling I needed to try it.
And you know what?
They turned out PERFECT!!
Which is why I have named them Booyah! Chocolate Chip Cookies!
I yelled for Michael, "Honey, you HAVE to come look at these cookies!" You would think I had just done something to win the Nobel prize or something.
He was so funny - as amazed as me. He said, "They look perfect!" Then he tried one and said, "These are the best chocolate chip cookies you have ever made... do NOT lose this recipe!"

I made a single recipe and those were gone so fast via Morris Morsels, I made a double batch after that.
So here it is: the recipe for Booyah! Chocolate Chip Cookies
1 cup Crisco
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon water
1 teaspoon baking soda
2-1/4 cups flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
1 teaspoon salt (I used coarse Kosher - makes for more of a sweet/salty cookie)
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts if desired
Cream Crisco and sugars. Add water and vanilla. Beat in eggs. Add soda, salt, and four. Mix well. Add chocolate chips and nuts and mix well.
Bake 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees.
I use a Silpat mat and parchment paper to keep the cookies from sticking and for easy cleanup!
1 batch makes about 3 dozen.
All I can say is....
Booyah!
It is the recipe on the package, but with Crisco instead of butter. :)
