READING:
The Lost Dogs - Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption. It started off as a hard book to read with details of how the dogs were treated and I didn't know if I was up for it, but I've continued on in the book. I'm ready to get into the rescue part of it because I want to read of hopefully happy endings for these dogs. I'm all about happy endings.
Little did I know until reading the book, that Gund's Johnny Justice (the stuffed animal) was named after one of Michael Vick's dogs, Johnny Justice. This dog was selected as the most beautiful dog in the country and is a limited edition Gund! I'm thrilled we carry this in our store and happy I connected the dots!
LEARNING:
My new camera. I love my "old" camera, a Fuji, which I have had for about 5 years or so. I use it at the store to take pictures of our cute furry customers (yes, the dogs) and the delay has been driving me crazy! I take what looks to be a great picture, only to have the dog move after being so patient (and hearing the click)... then the shutter finally responds... and I get blurry pictures of moving pooches. My new camera is a Canon DSLR so there is a learning curve (even using the auto focus feature), but I know Michael can help me through this! It has even required some reading of the instruction manual - not something I like to spend time on!
GROWING:
A wonderful assortment of weeds and grass in the landscaping. I've kept the flower beds in the front yard somewhat respectable looking by weeding them occasionally, but I just discovered a state fair award-winning thistle hiding behind the bleeding heart. I think it is about 4 feet tall (sigh). I'll get around to pulling it one of these days. We won't even talk about the flower beds in the back yard.
WRITING:
Notes in my prayer journal following Sunday services. In church we are studying 2 Peter and have been talking about goodness and knowledge the last two weeks. As I get older I find I retain things much better by writing them down. I love having notes to go back to - they remind me of what touched me on any given Sunday. I also make notes in my Bible. I love writing in it and highlighting things. Those notes catch my attention when I am thumbing through it, and I love being reminded of those "aha moments."
TRYING:
To eat better. The last few months have been fast, unhealthy choices for the most part. They say you are what you eat - if that is the case I'm ice cream, followed by pizza. My bone density has to be pretty amazing, unfortunately the health benefit of an ice cream diet stops there. It's time to discover some of the healthier food groups.
Speaking of which, if you go to our Farmer's Market on Saturday morning - check out Carlos' Quesadillas! They have breakfast burritos, but I have been enjoying their chicken quesadilla with extra pico de galle .... wonderful!
(And I get 2 meals out of it, so it's also a healthy option!)
