Getting Away!!

We just got back from a long weekend in Duluth.  We needed to get away and Duluth is our favorite spot to visit.  We have gone there enough that it is almost like a second home.  It's a spot we can go visit without putting a lot of thought and time into planning.  We know a lot of what is there and what we enjoy doing.

We revisited some of our favorite spots while there.

We ate at Grandma's in Canal Park (best boneless BBQ wings ever!)

We stayed at our favorite hotel - Canal Park Lodge.  It is located right on Lake Superior.  Canal Park is a fun place to stay as it is close to the harbor and there are lots of neat shops and great restaurants nearby (Red Lobster, Old Chicago, Famous Dave's, The Green Mill, Subway, Caribou Coffee, etc.) which are all within walking distance.

The city side of the hotel has a dining area with floor to ceiling windows.  The lake side has numerous sofas and chairs and is a great spot to sit and watch ships come in, or watch people walking on the Lakewalk.

We walked down to the harbor

We shopped the shops on Canal Park and visited Caribou Coffee, which is only a half block from our hotel.

We ate at Black Woods Grill - an awesome restaurant with wonderful food and ambiance.

And no trip to Duluth is complete without visiting...

......the Portland Malt Shop.  To not go would be illegal I think :)

Michael was able to see a ship leaving the harbor....

....I had crashed in the hotel :(

We ate at our favorite burger place - Five Guys.

We started Christmas shopping for the grandkids.

And dined at The Green Mill our last night in Duluth.

We never tire of our favorite places in Duluth, but we do manage to find new things to do!

This trip we discovered Lester Park

It has amazing trails.  I've never seen a city with so many places to hike and walk.  And the Lester Creek empties into Lake Superior, but is really much more than a creek!

We also saw something new in Duluth this trip -

 SNOW!!!

Yes we had snow showers most of one day.

But were able to spend the day before outdoors, taking pictures, and enjoying the beautiful weather.
Gotta love those getaways!
