A Rose by any Other Name

You're probably wondering where our blog name came from.  I know I would be!  Let's face it, our last name does not begin with a D.  Well let me tell you, it's not easy to come up with a blog name!  Our first thought was "Us and the Dog"  - taken.  Then I thought "This and That" - taken.  "Everything But the Kitchen Sink"  - taken.  At that point I knew I had to be more creative  and it was one of those days where my creativity was struggling a bit.

So with my computer battery slowing ticking down time  I tried to think of what would be special to us, that no one else would have used.  I'm a big nickname person.  My daughter, Elizabeth, is  "Schmid" or "Bif" - it would take too long to explain each one but there are songs involved!  (Oh, by the way, I also make up silly songs about people.  Sometimes there are even dance moves involved!)  My son, Tom, is "Big Guy" and yes, there is a song involved with that as well.    Belle, (aka awesome basset) is "Serial Girl", "Bellso", or "Bellsey"  - she has several songs, the type you sing only in the company of people who know you have already lost it, as her songs also have dance moves (and I am using that term loosely).  I used to babysit when my kids were little and I gave the kids I babysat nicknames.  There was "Goonie" and his brother "Goober", as well as "Gertie" and  "Doodle", and "Rell-Rell".  I have to say, at this point I feel the need to say "The names have been changed to protect the innocent."  If you're my age, that will make sense to you. For those of you younger - Dragnet :)  Anyway, you get the picture.

So as you can guess, Michael didn't have a chance of avoiding a nickname (okay, he has songs too)!  I won't mention some of his nicknames here as I don't want to embarrass him too much, but I do call him "Mr. Dordable" (child speak for Adorable).  That has been shortened to "Mr. D", or sometimes simply "D".  And he calls me "Mrs. D."

So there you have it  - "The D's and the Dog" - and the best part of all?  It wasn't already taken!!  Which either means we are super creative, or really losing it.  We'll go with the first. :)

Happy Friday!
